Crabbing champions | Combe Martin, North Devon (pt1)
Combe Martin, North Devon, EX34 0DH
Since our first visit to North Devon I knew that I wanted to explore this beautiful area of the country even more. For this trip we didn’t go far from the previous place that we visited. It was July 2020, middle of pandemic but luckily for us, some campsites were opened. There was a lot of social distancing measures in place. We were only there for four days and the weather wasn’t great upon our arrival. It started to bright up a little eventually and then on the last day it turned out to be an amazing and sunny day. We spent a few days doing nothing as always and just chilling, fishing and going out on walks in surrounding areas. There was a lot of time spent on the beach, crabbing, paddle boarding, discovering local caves and having fun.
Situated in north Devon , Combe Martin Is a village Located about 4 miles east of Ilfracombe. It’s a small seaside resort with a sheltered cove on the north-west edge of the Exmoor National Park. It’s known for its beautiful sandy beaches, rolling more land and fantastic family attractions. At low tide the large expanse of Golden Sands accessible in addition to a sheltered Sandycove coma making the area ideal for family holidays. The nearby countryside has numerous footpaths and bridleways for walking and riding. Rock pools hug the cliffs surrounding the cove, harboring all sorts of sea critters waiting to be discovered, while dolphins have been known to be seen off the coast during the summer months. Our favourite part was crabbing in those rock pools, all we needed was a net, bucket and some bacon and we managed to catch few sea creatures, of course we let them go at the end. My son as well as daddy were loving it! I loved all the photo opportunities of course so there was something for everyone to enjoy. In town there are two beaches, the main sandy beach has a dog ban, dogs arew not allowed on the beach between May 1 and September 30. The other one, less sandy but still nice, allows dogs all year round. Phew!
